2012 Candidate Reflections: Colin "No Impact Man" Beavan in Brooklyn's 8th Congressional District

I was persuaded to run for Congress by the fact that a lot of people were looking to be active in our democracy but had no faith in the two major parties and felt that they were not talking about the real issues our society faces. I didn't want to necessarily be a politician myself but I saw that I was in a position to help other people re-enter our democracy. For that reason, my campaign was about we not I--the we of the volunteers who became involved.

We ran the campaign on the platform of putting communities before corporations.  We repeatedly called attention to the fact that the two old-fashioned “major” parties pander to corporate interests while delaying action on climate change and economic transformation. (Read more...)
